Face masks are recommended for students in the sixth grade and above

yesterday the Metropolitan area corona coordination group reissued a recommendation on the use of face masks also in schools.

Today, Wednesday, November 24, 2021, we have distributed masks to students in the sixth grade and above. Although face masks are recommended, they haven’t been made mandatory, and some can’t wear a mask due to health reasons, for example. Please note that the face mask recommendation applies to everyone regardless of their vaccination status.

Pupils in grades 3–5 are allowed to wear masks at school if they so wish. It might be a good idea to discuss this with your child at home. When it comes to the youngest SYK pupils, we encourage you guardians to keep in contact with your child’s class teacher. The coronavirus situation at SYK is currently stable and safe, and any discussions around the mask recommendation should not evoke any feelings of anxiety among the pupils.

The Epidemiological Unit states that schools are low-risk environments, and for this reason the Epidemiological Unit no longer contacts the schools to ask for information when it comes to contact tracing. Contact tracing is somewhat slow at this time, and for this reason we will continue to inform you of the Covid-19 situation at SYK in order to prevent the spread of the virus. We will always consult the student/guardian in question before making any announcements, but we are hoping for openness and transparency so that we can better avoid further infections. Naturally we understand the importance of health information privacy, too.

It is still important to stay away from school, hobbies and to avoid crowds if you have corona symptoms. Children under the age of 12 won’t be referred to a Corona unless they have been exposed to a confirmed case of Covid-19, or unless their family member has a weakened immune system making them more likely to get severely ill from Covid-19. Corona virus self-tests can also be used.

Do not hesitate to contact us in case you have questions or if you encounter situations that require further clarification or discussions. We will then work together with you to find suitable solutions.

The festive season is approaching. Our plan is to carry out the upcoming events as planned. However, any changes are still possible.
